CWPMA is working to make sure that the enforcement discretion that was elevated by the sponsors is followed through on. Technically the enforcement date is March, 18th of 2025 and absent any further guidelines or interpretive memo retailers should be responsive to removing products from shelves.
We are also working with our manufacturing partners to make sure that every option for mitigation of continuing to provide livable wages and benefits to your employees is on the table.
On Dec. 18, 2024, Mayor Mike Johnston signed Bill 24-1765 into law. It prohibits the sale of flavored tobacco products within the City and County of Denver. The new law will take effect 90 days from signature, on March 18, 2025.
To support retailers during this transition, the Department of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) will provide education and resources to build understanding of the law’s requirements for retail tobacco store establishments and help retailers comply with the new regulations before enforcement begins.
More information from DDPHE will be provided to you soon about enforcement procedures of the new law. DDPHE is also developing a comprehensive educational outreach program to ensure retailers and consumers are fully informed of the new regulations before they go into effect.
Share this message with any other interested stakeholders and encourage them to sign up for the retail tobacco store informational bulletin. It provides news and updates as they become available.
