Description of Job
The Division of Oil and Public Safety administers laws that safeguard the public and ensure that consumers and businesses alike have a fair, consistent and equitable marketplace.
This work unit exists to protect public health, safety, and the environment and ensure equity in the marketplace in accordance with Colorado laws and regulations by safeguarding against accidental releases from petroleum storage tanks; evaluating petroleum release characteristics; evaluating technical aspects of reimbursement from the Petroleum Storage Tank Fund; and providing information related to the status of site investigations and remediation efforts, as well as regulatory compliance, to the regulated community and other interested parties.
The position exists to inspect petroleum storage tank systems to verify that they comply with pertinent codes, regulations and statutes; to ensure that fuel purchasers receive the correct quantity and quality of product purchased; and to respond to emergencies and customer complaints.
Job duties are mostly performed outdoors with the potential of being exposed to all weather conditions.
The Inspection Territory primarily consists of facilities located in the counties of; Archuleta, Chaffee, Delta, Dolores, Fremont, Gunnison, Hinsdale, La Plata, Lake, Montezuma, Montrose, Ouray, Park, San Jaun, San Miguel, and Teller.
The ideal candidate would be living in the Montrose/Delta area or the Durango/Cortez area but at minimum would live in or be willing to relocate to an area within the listed counties. If relocation is required, the applicant would need to relocate within an acceptable timeframe. This relocation timeframe would be determined and agreed upon before the hire date
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Three years of experience in the areas of petroleum storage or dispensing equipment inspections or installations, environmental compliance inspections, or detecting releases from liquid or compressed gas storage equipment.
Substitutions:
Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Conditions of Employment:
Must be a resident of Colorado at time of submitting application
Must be physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, and lift up to 20 pounds on a continuous basis during their assigned shift. Most lifting is in removing manhole covers that can weigh upwards of 180lbs. Lifting aids are supplied but the candidate must be able to lift enough of the manhole cover to then move it out of the way.
Special Requirements
Moderate to extensive travel within the counties listed above is required; therefore the person selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.
Effective September 20, 2021, employees will be required to attest to and verify that they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, or, submit to twice-weekly serial testing. Upon hire, new employees will have three (3) business days to provide attestation to their status with proof of vaccination, or begin twice-weekly serial testing for COVID-19.
Testing will take place in-person/at home/TBD and will be considered paid work time.
Note: Fully Vaccinated means two (2) weeks after a second dose in a two-dose series of the COVID-19 vaccine, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two (2) weeks after the single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine, as defined by the State of Colorado’s Public Health Order and guidance issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment.
