Summertime is the busiest travel season, meaning drivers are more likely to get in a crash while navigating America’s roadways. In 2022, there were 11,705 fatal vehicle crashes during the summer. With the Fourth of July approaching, we‘d like to remind you to share NHTSA’s life-saving summer driving tips with consumers throughout the travel season to spare drivers from dealing with the consequences of a breakdown or worse –  a fatal crash.

Did you know summer also proves to be the worst time of the year for vehicle theft? As you share summer driving tips, please consider also sharing the following information to remind your consumers to keep vehicle theft prevention top of mind:

  • Protect your car from vehicle theft – Over 1,000,000 vehicles were stolen in the United States in 2022. During Vehicle Theft Prevention Month (July) and all throughout the year, remember to close and lock all windows and doors when you park. Park in well-lit areas and always stow away your valuables.
