COLORADO - CSP CLARIFICATION FOR ROUTING AROUND MAGELLAN

Colorado Marketers and Transporters.

Recently our partners at Magellan were responsive to a request by Aurora and RTD and distributed a flier that suggested some alternative access routes into the terminal.

As Supply in Colorado continues to have challenges there has been a  lot of pressure on the terminal at Smith and Chambers Road. I want to thank our partners at Magellan for helping.

Today the Colorado State Patrol issued the attached letter relative to pickup/delivery for the terminal.  Importantly, the association urges carriers to not use Peoria due to the roundabout design and traffic concerns. CSP is the statutory authority for routing in Colorado relative to Hazardous Materials so please rely on the CSP letter.

The letter along with the HOS relief, both attached here should be kept in cabs with drivers.

Members will remember that RTD decided to build the A-line across our hazardous materials route, without a flyover. CWPMA brought this issue to the legislature and there was funding secured for a review by CDOT, Federal Rail, and FMCSA, the pandemic derailed the momentum but this has brought the issue back to the forefront.

It would be catastrophic for an accident to occur between a commuter rial train and a tanker truck, please continue to be careful when crossing the rail tracks, the train often runs and the problems with the gates have been well documented.  The the fact that over 500 trucks a day cross that intersection has led to this being rated as one of the most dangerous rail crossings in the country.

Please be safe.
