NATIONAL - FDA MENTHOL RULE PUBLICATION - COMMENTS REQUESTED

As you are aware, the FDA has now released its rule to the public, which intends to ban the use of menthol in cigarettes across the U.S.  While this is an anticipated action and part of a multi-step, multi-year process, we’ve been proactively engaging the FDA and other government officials on this matter for a while now.  As of May 4th, we will be in an open comment period (step 6) within the broader 9 step rule making process, which will allow for any and all commentary to be submitted by the public.  Your interest and support at this juncture are desired and greatly appreciated – the FDA and Biden Administration must hear from you on this important issue.  Your voices and input of affected trade associations and your member businesses across the country are a critical component at this step in the process.  Reynolds has the focus and resources on this matter that we can offer to you so you can get involved in an efficient and effective manner to ensure your collective association is properly represented.

  • Attached below is a National Menthol Ban Awareness Tear Pad 1-sheet file that provides the content for the Tear Pads which are being distributed to retail outlets by Reynolds representatives beginning week of 5/9 in an effort to get adult tobacco consumers aware and engaged.  Trade associations may also use this file to create additional awareness with their members.
  •  Also attached is a Public Comments how to guide developed exclusively for our trade partners (retail and wholesale) with information on how to submit their comments on the proposed rules.  We strongly encourage our all of our trade association partners to submit comments and share this information forward with their members so they too can submit comments on behalf of their businesses.
